Senioritis

This week I mentioned our impending Europe trip to a friend (yes, I happen to be mentioning my trip alot these days…) and she made the statement, “Wow, you must really have senioritis.”  It’s true – I am more than excited.  And it is definitely taking up many of my thoughts – from figuring out what to pack (made even tougher by the fact we’re only bringing backpacks for luggage), making sure everything is in order at home and work before we leave, and continuing to research the places we’ll be visiting.  One could say that I’m slightly obsessed…  but only slightly. 🙂

I looked up the definition for senioritis and found this on Wikipedia:  “a term used to describe the decreased motivation toward studies displayed by students who are nearing the end of their high school, college and graduate school careers.”

Decreased motivation?  If anything, I’m working harder than ever to ensure everything is finished at work and lined up at home so that I won’t have to worry while I’m away.  If it truly were senioritis I was suffering from, then why not just check out now…catch an early flight to Athens and call it a day?  (Actually, that’s not too bad of an idea – ha!)  I think a better label would be “vacation lust.”  It’s as if I almost can’t believe our trip is here.  After all the months of researching and planning, we’ll actually be on our way this time next week.

Yes, I think that’s better – I’m lusting for our vacation to begin.  And in the meantime, I’ll continue to work hard to get there – leaving senioritis to the kids in school.

Ooh la la. You never cease to amaze me with your creativity. I am having a difficult time juggling everything- preparing for the trip and working a few days. To be young again… I have been lusting for several weeks and all I really want to think about is our trip. The researching and planning is such fun and I am so glad I have a daughter who loves it also. Love your post! Hope you are adding more people to your post by now. So proud of you.
    Love you
