Saddle up!

On Friday I saw something I never thought I’d see…my hubby on a horse! 😉 Although I don’t think he was too comfortable, I was proud of him for trying out horseback riding.

Our riding experience began at Sombrero Ranch. My parents and Lizzie came to see us off, and watched as we saddled up our trusty steeds.

My horse was named “Gunner” and JR rode “Buckets.” Gunner and Buckets should’ve been named “Tired” and “Hungry” as my horse kept trying to take shortcuts back to the ranch
and JR’s horse wanted to snack on every nice patch of grass we passed. They were a pretty funny duo, but we were able to get them to behave after a few instructions from our guide.

We rode through the Roosevelt National Forest and looked out on several gorgeous views of Estes Park and the surrounding peaks.

All in all, it was a nice 2-hr ride. We definitely were ready to get off the horses though – and I think Tired and Hungry may have been even more excited.

After horseback riding, we rounded out our last day in the area with a nice walk around Lake Estes and dinner at a great Thai restaurant in downtown Estes Park. Oh and ice cream. (You gotta have ice cream every night while on vacation – this is a must!)

We had a wonderful week in the Rockies, and next we headed to Denver for a few days in the mile-high city…..
