On our last day in the Algave, we decided on a day trip to Lagos, only about a 45 minute drive away from Ferragudo. Lagos is one of the top places to visit in the region, famous for its beautiful beaches and unique rock formations. We easily booked two Ubers that morning for our party of 7 and headed over.

Our first stop – Mar Restaurant overlooking two beaches, Praia da Batata and Praia dos Estudantes. After a delicious seafood lunch, the girls and I explored the beaches, including a tunnel connecting the two. It was a perfect beach day – lots of sun and clear skies!

But Lagos doesn’t end with beaches, there was a whole beautiful city to check out! After the beach, we enjoyed a leisurely stroll along the main walkway into the heart of Lagos. We followed Rick Steves walking tour to see the highlights of this 2,000-year-old ancient maritime town. Due to its ideal harbor location, it played an important role for many Portuguese expeditions.

We loved the beautiful tiled streets and pedestrian-only walkways, making it very easy to navigate. Although it was a Sunday, quite a few shops were still only. We enjoyed browsing and found a great gelato shop to mark the end our visit. Deliciosa!

Although we didn’t stay in Lagos, I would definitely consider it as a base for our next visit. It was more touristy than sleepy little Ferragudo, but didn’t seem overrun. I found it quite charming!
