Our last day in Halifax was full of trying to fit in allll the things!

Our first stop was the Halifax Citadel, dating back to 1749 and built by the British as a defensive outpost to protect the city’s natural harbor. Perched on a hill, it provides sweeping views of Halifax and the surrounding areas. We enjoyed exploring the grounds, and there were lots of different demonstrations taking place (including a cannon firing), interpretive guides in realistic uniforms from that time period, plus interactive activities for the girls.

Adjacent to the Citadel is the Halifax Public Gardens. The gardens were created in 1867 and are a perfect example of a Victorian-era public garden. We enjoyed a picnic lunch from Harvest there, then strolled through enjoying the beautiful flowers.

After a quick rest, Lizzie, my mom, and me continued on to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, located right on the wharf. And we just happened to hit it during their free access on Tuesday evenings. We thoroughly enjoyed the special Titanic exhibit with real artifacts recovered from the crash site. Halifax was one of the closest harbors to the wreck and played an instrumental role in the recovery efforts of Titanic victims.

We closed out a very full day with dinner on the harbor at the Mediterranean restaurant, Darya. Delish!
