The next leg of our trip landed us in Digby, located on the northern side of the Nova Scotia peninsula on the Bay of Fundy. It was about a 2.5 hour drive from Halifax and I planned the perfect pit stop – Kejimkujik National Park.

Coined “Keji” for short, the park spans 147 square miles with Acadian old growth forests and interconnected waterways. In fact, 80% of the park is accessible only via canoe/kayak or hiking.

We happened to be passing right by the park’s visitor center – the ideal spot for a mid-drive picnic. We all tried to remember how to skip rocks in the placid Mersey River (something we’d done with my dad on past summer vacations), then we stretched our legs along a brief hike to river cascades.

A short and sweet outing that felt far away from the coast – when in reality we had less than an hour till we arrived at our destination. 🌲🏞️🦦
